You have only 7 days left to live. You have choice out of two books. Which do you choose?

1) The God Delusion by prof R Dawkins ( Atheist Scientist)
2) Evidence for Truth by Dr V EV. Pearce( Theologian Scientist)

Both are brilliant writers but with opposite Faiths and beliefs.
One offers life ,the other embraces death.

If ive only got 7 days to live, Id spend my time with family and friends instead of wasting my time on a book.

Neither. 7 days to live and I read a book that sucks up two or three?

If I only had 7 days left to live, I’d sure as hell not spend it reading a book.

Yeah, lets spend my last days on earth reading…

Why, were the rest of the books in the world burned by the overly self-righteous?

I’d go read "nature", you know, look around in the world and read that.

Neither. Both are heavily biased. Especially the 2nd one.

Books? Pah! I love them, but with only a week left to live I’d probably pile up a supply of cider and set about masturbating like a fiend!

I’m glad you think that Dawkins embraces life - I’ve always thought so too. Those religious books that obsess about the death of a man on a cross, and the sin and darkness in the word are just too depressing. No, the glories of life are about the here and now, and as a world renowned biologist Dawkins brings that to life. Well done!

Having said that, I’ve read it the God Delusion, and wouldn’t waste my last 7 days on some creationist claptrap!

I have to agree with the others, I wouldn’t spend my last 7 days reading. Now, if you had asked if we had a week with nothing to do but read and would live after said week, you might get better answers.

Definitely the God Delusion. Richard Dawkins is the best!

Ok, feel free to slam my answer for not answering the question, but from my point of view as a Christian, neither are going to help you in death.

The first one is wrong simply because when I look at the world around me, I see a world full of order and beauty. I simply cannot believe that there is no God.

The second one is not terribly useful because it is simply arguments. Yes they may be good arguments, but they are certainly not going to help you in the long run. The point of the gospel is not primarily to make people believe in God, but to show God’s love towards us sinners. We have all fallen infinitely short of God’s standards are deserve death. But Jesus Christ died on that cross to bear our sins away that those who believe that this is true through God’s grace would have a relationship with God in this world and live in perfect union with God in the next. The Bible is the book that offers LIFE, both in this world and in the next. Dawkins is to a certain extent correct, that he thinks Christians may be deluded - that an awesome God who has no need of us should send His only Son to die for repentant sinners is truly amazing, something that he, at the moment, cannot comprehend.

Hope that was helpful in answering your question and your life questions in general! God bless.

I think I’d rather spend the last seven days of my life getting all the nooky I can before dropping dead. Read a book? Absurd!

Evidence for Truth by E. K. Victor Pearce (only because I’ve read the first choice on your list). It would be fun criticising the illogical sections in a theologian’s book before I died.

Well neither really, why spend your time reading a book?

Unless I were forced to than I would read Evidence for Truth, only because I am an atheist and curious of what evidence of truth do they really mean?

I choose the Holy Bible and count the glorious minutes quit work so I can spend all day with my wife in bed listen to Phil Keaggy and my other fav Christian artists get a great bottle of scotch leave a will read some great theologians and then die with a great smile on my face much like Stephen when he was being stoned to death.

I’ve already read both.
The first has the much better arguments, though I hate Richard Dawkins’ tone.
Science is just the first volume of Peace’s book series: he works on archaeology, miracles and angels (!?) and prophecy in his subsequent ones. A wide-ranging expert, it seems.

My "going out" reading?
Possibly Neil Gaiman’s "Sandman" series.
Death, Destiny and Dream…

You’re mad. If I only had 7 days to live I’d spend every second of it with my 3 year old daughter and my wife. So my last book will probably be Winnie the Pooh.

I’ve read the God Delusion, it’s ok but Dawkins’ other books are better. I doubt if i will read it again. If I live another hundred years I’m not going to waste a week reading creationist claptrap.

Amazon.co.uk show The God Delusion as their 139th best selling book. Evidence for Truth trails at 453,779th.

I’m currently reading Steven Mithen’s After the Ice. Its a serious scholarly attempt to portray early human history (20,000 to 5,000 BC) based on research, evidence and analysis, backed up by a huge amount of notes and detailed references to the painstaking research of others over the last century. A fascinating story and much better than any creationist fantasy.

Having just finished The God Delusion it would have to be Evidence for Truth to see whether science can put forward a valid argument for the existence of god.

With seven days of life left, I don’t think I would be pursuing cerebral diversions. Since your using a single choice scenario, I’ll go with Dawkins.
