For a college faculty position: What is meant by the phrase tenure track position?

I saw a college is advertising for tenure track position. What is (are) the difference(s) between a tenure track and a non tenure track position?

And…to add to that..usually tenure-track implies that you have a Ph.D or Ed.D and can teach graduate level classes–and will publish and research–all depending on where you teach. Non-tenure is usually not protected and can also be part-time–that term is adjunct–we adjuncts are the slave labor of the education world….no benefits, guarantees, nothing.

Dr. R Says:

Tenure tract position means that it is working toward permancy and tenure. Non-tenure means that they could overstaff the position or get rid of it at will.
